Support Our Mission

Our mission is to teach our friends and neighbors, no matter where they live, how to plan meals, shop for ingredients, grow and preserve their own food, and cook healthy, simple and affordable recipes. We bridge the gap between the food people have access to and the tools and knowledge they have to prepare nutritious meals for themselves and their families. Whether people shop at the farmers market, grocery store, or receive food through charitable organizations, Uncomplicated Kitchen teaches our community that healthy food is affordable and simple.

We do this by teaching  cooking classes, holding workshops, and being available for our students even when class isn't happening. Our program is about helping students learn the culinary skills necessary to become empowered in the kitchen.

Testimonials

"Uncomplicated Kitchen came to us at just the right time. I was looking for a way to be more involved with my community and what's more communal than food? Uncomplicated Kitchen appealed to us because supporting local growers, cooking for sustainability, and doing it on a budget is exactly what we were looking for. Plus my daughter, Lily, is a food anxious and adverse sensory kid, and Jenna has been fantastic about engaging and including her in the classes. Lily has flourished, and she's even tried and eaten food we've made which is nothing short of a miracle! Thank you, Jenna,  Uncomplicated Kitchen, and all the friends we've made."

"Uncomplicated Kitchen and meeting Jenna Kranz have impacted me both personally and professionally.  Personally, lessons through the Uncomplicated Kitchen has broadened my knowledge of gardening, cooking techniques and preparing nutritious and simple meals with my family.  Professionally, our partnership has allowed the School Nutrition Program to reach more students in Jackson County Schools.  Jenna has the knowledge, passion, energy and love that makes you want to learn more and waiting for the next lesson."

"I’m always looking for recipes for my vegan/gluten-free son. It’s a challenge! There have been many offered by Uncomplicated Kitchen, but the chickpea shakshuka really hit the spot. The step-by-step and interaction with Jenna really helps me to learn so many cost-effective and very tasty meals for everyone in my family."

"For me, Uncomplicated Kitchen is about teaching an old cook new tricks and preparing healthy and tasty dishes. I especially enjoy being part of a community that supports new cooks enthusiastic about learning new tricks and preparing healthy, tasty dishes."

“To me, cooking together is always been a sacred, special moment to nourish my body and those I'm feeding. Taking Uncomplicated Kitchen’s hands-on cooking classes, I felt the joy of cooking while laughing and connecting with my community around fresh ground food. I learned, made a delicious meal, and felt connected. The knowledge of growing and cooking food is so important for the health of our body, the community, and the planet; I'm so thankful that western North Carolina has the opportunity to learn health through food with Uncomplicated Kitchen.”
